About The Position

As a bartender at the pool bar of The Umstead Hotel & Spa, the primary function of this position is to ensure guest satisfaction and comfort through food and beverage service. It is the responsibility of the bartender to help maintain an impeccable appearance of the pool deck throughout the shift. This may include set up and break down of the pool area as well as maintenance throughout the shift.

Requirements

  • Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position. Employees with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
  • Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel. In addition, attendance at all scheduled training sessions and meetings is required.
  • Upon employment, all employees are required to fully comply with The Umstead Hotel rules and regulations for the safe and effective operation of the hotel’s facilities. Employees who violate hotel rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
  • Physical ability to walk and handle trays, food items, glasses, etc. in a safe and constructive manner for at least 4 hours at a time.
  • Must be able to exert well-paced ability in limited space and to reach other locations of the hotel on a timely basis.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill cleaning tasks occasionally.
  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and subordinates.
  • Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near and color vision and depth perception.
  • Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment.
  • Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English, both written and oral.
  • Ability to use hotel point-of-sale computer systems.

Responsibilities

  • Report to work at the scheduled time, neatly groomed & in line with all Umstead Grooming Standards.
  • Maintain a clean environment conducive to the preparation of alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages as well as food service.
  • Retain full knowledge of food and beverage menus.
  • Receive food and beverage orders from guests and ensure accuracy upon delivery.
  • Prepare beverages for Pool Bar and Spa guests in a timely manner.
  • Offer Amenities and Pool Services to guests while displaying knowledge of various surrounding outlets.
  • Maintain an attractive and safe environment by keeping pool and pool deck free of debris at all times.
  • Assist Pool Servers and Recreation Attendants with service as needed.
  • Display proper cash handling skills daily.
  • Accurately account for all food and beverage orders in Point of Sale System.
  • To reflect and guide the IRD staff members in the Umstead Vision and Values through continuity of The Umstead Hotel’s management standards.
  • To be communicative and forthcoming with information vital to service within the Food and Beverage Department, the Hospitality division and all other outlets of The Umstead Hotel and Spa.
  • To represent leadership for In Room Dining while primary leadership is absent or unavailable.
