About The Position

Join our team at Koa Kea Hotel & Resort, a luxury hotel located on the beautiful Poipu Beach in Kauai, Hawaii. We are dedicated to providing our guests with memorable experiences and exceptional service. As part of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring that guests have everything they need during their dining experience, maintaining a clean and organized kitchen station, and assisting with various tasks to optimize food quality and presentation. This role requires effective communication, teamwork, and the ability to perform under pressure.

Requirements

  • Perform more than one task at a time.
  • Follow supervisor’s instructions.
  • Report to work in a complete required uniform.
  • Maintain a well-manicured appearance and persona that reflects the image of the restaurant.
  • Meet personal schedule requirements punctually.
  • Be courteous, friendly and pleasant.
  • Stand and walk for an entire shift.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs. via food or beverage trays or required equipment needed to perform specific job duties.
  • Safely transport items to and from kitchen on a slick uneven surface.
  • Lift and carry multiple plates from kitchen to dining room.
  • Safely move about in all areas of the restaurant.
  • Frequently bend, stoop, reach, lift, carry, and wipe.

Nice To Haves

  • Food Handler’s Certification.
  • Knowledge of all hotel departments and events.
  • Good mathematical and computer skills.
  • High school education and relevant training and experience required. Additional education preferred.
  • CPR and first aid training preferred.
  • Additional language ability preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and maintain a working knowledge of all food menus including carryout menus.
  • Assure guests have everything they need on the tables after delivery of food.
  • Ensure guest has proper silverware, napkin, share plates when delivering food.
  • Keep kitchen station clean and organized.
  • Assist with putting deliveries away in designated areas.
  • Polish and stock utensils & steak knives.
  • Assist all servers, bartenders and managers with carrying of plates.
  • Communicate effectively and courteously with guests and co-workers.
  • Communicate food orders to chefs, paying attention to priorities and special requests (e.g. food allergies).
  • Perform calmly and effectively under stressful conditions.
  • Promote an atmosphere of teamwork by assisting co-workers.
  • Assist in FOH with bussing, pouring water and anything that can deliver the best results for our guests.
  • Assist the kitchen and service staff as needed to maintain the highest level of food quality, presentation, and timing.
  • Set up the front line with the equipment, plateware, and smallwares needed to effectively serve all food products.
  • Keep station restocked throughout the shift.
  • Clean large and small trays and tray stands to be ready for service.
  • Read order tickets as they arrive and place onto ticket minder.
  • Track cooking times on all orders, check finished product for proper degree of doneness, appearance, and plate presentation.
  • Garnish finished entrees according to house specifications and procedures.
  • Assist the server as needed to optimize the guest’s dining experience.
  • Accomplish all job duties while adhering to all safety guidelines and practices throughout the shift.
  • Report any unsafe condition, unsafe act, accidents and/or injuries to the chef or other manager on duty.
  • Correctly complete closing duties at the end of each shift.
  • Assist Chef and other kitchen personnel in accomplishing closing duties and kitchen cleanliness.
  • Complete all side work in the front and/or back of the house as assigned and scheduled by the members of the management team.
