About The Position

Description Summary/Objective A Polysomnography Technologist performs sleep studies, polysomnograms, on those with suspected sleep disorders. Also provides diagnostic and therapeutic interventions and direct patient education. Essential Functions Set up and maintain sleep lab equipment, including accurate calibration for proper testing and make adjustments as necessary. Review medical record and educate the patient regarding procedures and sleep related disorders. Provides collection of all questionnaires and appropriate consents for ordered procedures. Reviews patient medications and medical record prior to the sleep study. Provide explanation of the procedures being followed and orient patient to sleep lab facility as appropriate. Determines final testing parameters in conjunction with the supervising provider and current sleep laboratory protocols. Apply electrodes and monitor patient continuously during sleep and nap studies, documenting results per established standards. Follow procedural protocols such as MSLT, parasomnia studies, PAP, Oxygen titration, etc in order to ensure collection of appropriate clinical data is obtained. Follow appropriate “lights out “procedures to establish and document all baseline values including body position, heart rate, O2 saturation and respiratory rate. Subsequently follow “lights on “procedures to verify data integrity and complete collection of data Perform data acquisition while monitoring study tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free, identity, correct and document any artifact. Document observations such as sleep studies, clinical events, and changed required during study in procedure and other events that occurring order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of PSG results. Implement appropriate interventions and emergency procedures and actions as necessary for patient safety such as PAP,o2 administration, CPR, etc. Score all sleep wake stages using clinically accepted guidelines

Requirements

  • High School graduate or GED.
  • Successful completion of an accredited educational program leading to certificate of associate degree with an emphasis on sleep technology OR Successful completion of a sleep technology program associated with a state licensed and/or nationally accredited education facility or equivalent education and documented proficiency for all competencies required for a sleep technician
  • Certification by a nationally recognized certification board and holds an RPSGT OR CPSGT credential by the BRPT is required.
  • Current BLS certification or to be completed within three months of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of EEG, EKG, or electro diagnostic monitoring experience preferred.
