About The Position

Reports to the Manager of Beacon Sleep Disorders. Under the general supervision of the Medical Director, provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders including polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services, patient care and education.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of an associate's degree in polysomnography or a polysomnography program of no less than one year duration at a state licensed and/or nationally accredited educational facility.
  • Must be certified (or eligible) as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) or Registered Sleep Technologist (RST), Sleep Disorders Specialty (SDS).
  • Candidates who have completed a Respiratory Therapy program, a valid Indiana license, and are registered (or registry eligible) as a Respiratory Therapist will be given consideration.
  • Requires well-developed knowledge of application and effects of polysomnography techniques and procedures.
  • Maintains current BLS for Healthcare Providers and professional certifications.
  • Demonstrates interpersonal and communication skills necessary for effective communication with patients, families, technicians and aides.
  • Requires analytical skills to determine appropriate methods of therapy based upon observation of patient and diagnostic reports.

Responsibilities

  • Gathers and analyzes patient information and prepares for patient testing by collecting, analyzing and integrating patient information to identify and meet the patient's specific needs.
  • Utilizes patient information to determine final testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician and/or medical director and laboratory protocols.
  • Completes and verifies documentation.
  • Explains pre-testing, testing and post-testing procedures to the patient.
  • Prepares and calibrates equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning and makes adjustments if necessary.
  • Applies electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards.
  • Performs appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals and makes adjustments if necessary.
  • Performs positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting.
  • Evaluates sleep study-related equipment to ensure proper function.
  • Performs routine and complex equipment care and maintenance.
  • Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies.
  • Responds to study participant's procedural-related inquiries by providing appropriate information.
  • Performs polysomnographic, diagnostic and therapeutic services in accordance with established department policies and procedures.
  • Follows procedural protocols to ensure collection of appropriate data.
  • Documents routine observations including sleep stages and clinical events.
  • Implements appropriate interventions for patient safety and therapeutic intervention.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age specific care.
  • Oversees and performs difficult and unusual procedures and therapeutic interventions.
  • Complies with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and standards regarding safety and infection control issues.
  • Completes other job-related duties and projects as assigned.
