The Polysomnography (Sleep) Technologist at NYU Langone Hospital-Long Island plays a crucial role in providing diagnostic testing and therapeutic services related to sleep disorders. This position involves working under the supervision of medical directors and supervisors to ensure high-quality patient care and education, while also maintaining and operating polysomnographic equipment. The technologist is responsible for conducting sleep studies, educating patients, and ensuring compliance with safety and procedural standards.

  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-specific care for patients of all ages.
  • Explains test procedures to patients and completes patient registration using the electronic medical record system.
  • Performs mask fittings and pressure acclimatization for CPAP, BPAP, and ASV treatments.
  • Selects and calibrates appropriate equipment for testing, ensuring proper functioning and making adjustments as necessary.
  • Cleans and maintains equipment according to standards, notifying management of any repairs needed.
  • Documents equipment malfunctions and alerts management to any issues with equipment or supplies.
  • Measures patients and applies electrodes and sensors according to standards.
  • Monitors recordings overnight, ensuring adequate quality and documenting patient status and activities.
  • Educates patients on home sleep testing and provides remote technical support.
  • Scores sleep studies according to AASM Scoring Manual and generates technical reports.
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) Certification.
  • Current NYS Polysomnographic Technologist Authorization or NYS Respiratory Therapist License.
  • Current AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Two years of experience as a Polysomnographic Technologist.
  • An Associate's Degree or higher in a healthcare-related field.
