About The Position

A Polysomnographic Technologist works under the general supervision of the Practice Manager for Bronson Sleep Lab or designee to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. This may involve polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services or patient care and education. A Polysomnographic Technologist can perform the duties defined for a Polysomnographic Technician and may provide supervision of other staff. Performs other related duties as assigned. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Polysomnography or equivalent experience.
  • Certification by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Knowledge of procedures, medical office protocol, and patient management.
  • Ability to stay focused while dealing with multiple distractions.
  • Effective time management skills with ability to prioritize workload.
  • Ability to communicate concisely and effectively in a courteous manner.
  • Knowledge of modern office procedures and methods including electronic medical records.
  • Ability to cope with a high level of stress and make fast decisions under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, analyze and integrate patient information to identify and meet patient-specific needs.
  • Complete and verify documentation.
  • Explain pre-testing, testing, and post-testing procedures to the patient.
  • Prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing.
  • Apply electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards.
  • Perform appropriate physiologic calibrations.
  • Perform PAP mask fitting, when applicable.
  • Follow procedural protocols to ensure collection of appropriate data.
  • Perform Polysomnographic data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality.
  • Document routine observations including sleep stages and clinical events.
  • Implement appropriate interventions for patient safety and therapeutic intervention.
  • Score sleep/wake stages and clinical events according to specific protocols.
  • Generate accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data.
  • Perform routine and complex equipment care and maintenance.
  • Maintain a safe workplace by keeping work area free of hazards.
