About The Position

The position involves conducting nocturnal polysomnograms, initiating nasal CPAP, conducting Multiple Sleep Latency Tests, and scoring all types of tests performed. The role requires setting up necessary equipment, discussing test procedures with patients, instructing on PAP therapy, and preparing patients for tests by applying electrodes and ancillary equipment according to AASM standards. The technician will monitor patients during testing, adjust and troubleshoot equipment, and score polygraphic records for physician review. Additional responsibilities include maintaining equipment, assisting in training new personnel, and ensuring confidentiality of patient information.

Requirements

  • Requires high school diploma.
  • Requires board certification from the BRPT or ABSM.
  • Associates that are not registered or are CRPSGTs at the time of hire must pass the board examination within the first 180 days of hire.
  • Twelve to eighteen months of related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Gathers materials and sets up all necessary equipment for the test.
  • Discusses test procedure with patient and answers any questions.
  • Instructs patient on the use of PAP therapy.
  • Prepares patient for test by applying appropriate electrodes and ancillary equipment.
  • Calibrates machines according to standard procedures and recalibrates as needed.
  • Monitors patient during testing.
  • Adjusts and troubleshoots equipment as necessary.
  • Contacts physician if life-threatening or other emergency situations arise.
  • Scores polygraphic records and summarizes findings for physician review.
  • Cleans equipment as needed.
  • Contacts appropriate sources for necessary repair.
  • Maintains adequate stock levels of equipment and supplies.
  • May collect urine samples for laboratory analysis.
  • Assists in training new personnel in polysomnography techniques.
  • Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships.
  • Helps identify problems, offers solutions, and participates in their resolution.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patients and staff.
  • Assists with answering the phone and scheduling patients for test procedures.
  • Maintains current BLS/CPR and sleep certifications.
  • Acquires 10 CEC's per year for sleep center accreditation.
  • May assist with interviews for new hire employees.
  • Assists with scoring training and comparisons.
  • Assists with monitoring and evaluating technical quality of procedures performed.
