How you’ll contribute A Polysomnographic Student who excels in this role: All job responsibilities are performed under the direct supervision of a registered polysomnographic technician. Collect patient demographic and insurance information for outpatient services. Collects insurance, co-pay, and deductibles at point of service. Quickly and efficiently expedites the registration process. Provide a positive first impression of the hospital to the public. Responsible for attaching electrodes and monitors to patients who are participating in a sleep study. Monitor the patient throughout the sleep study and document observations, collect data from various monitors and report this information to the physician. Educate the patient and family about the procedures and monitor patients electronically and via video for any unusual sleep patterns. Record observations of patients throughout the sleep session at specific time intervals as appropriate. Scores polysomnography recordings and sends to the physician for interpretation. Maintain and operate all sleep lab equipment safely and correctly. Inspect and test sleep lab equipment to ensure that it is functioning safely and efficiently. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the differences in techniques treatment modalities as performed on patients of varying ages including pediatric through geriatric. Ensures that all necessary demographic, billing, and clinical information is obtained and entered in the registration system with timelines and accuracy. Distribute and explain forms, documents, and educational handouts to patients or family members. Meet with patient or patient’s caregiver before or after admission to exchange necessary information and documentation. Provide explanation of process and addresses concerns and questions. Communicate with admitting physician’s office, nursing staff, and/or other appropriate personnel regarding admission to exchange necessary information and determine placement. Verify insurance benefits and obtain precertification/authorization as necessary. Determine and accept required payments, including co-pays and deductibles, or refers to financial counselors for follow up.
