About The Position

The Polysomnographic Technologist I (PSGT I) is a competent staff member who provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders through home and in-center testing. In addition to performing various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, the PSGT provides education related to a variety of sleep disorders. Care is provided to the pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric population.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of an accredited educational program leading to a certificate or degree in sleep technology resulting in eligibility to sit for the RPSGT exam. Exam must be passed within 3 months of hire and licensed by the Virginia State Board of Medicine within 30 days of passing the exam.
  • OR Successful completion of a sleep technology program associated with a nationally accredited board leading to eligibility to sit for the RPSGT Exam. Exam must be passed within 3 months of hire and licensed by the Virginia State Board of Medicine within 30 days of passing the exam.
  • OR No experience to be hired as Trainee. All educational requirements must be attained and RPSGT exam passed within 18 months of hire and licensed by the Virginia State Board of Medicine within 30 days of passing the exam.
  • AND Basic Life Support within 90 days of hire

Responsibilities

  • Perform pre-study requirements as defined by department policies and procedures.
  • Perform patient set up according to published standards.
  • Under prescribed protocols, collect, analyze, and prepare diagnostic and therapeutic sleep studies for physician interpretation.
  • Select appropriate interface options for patients requiring PAP therapy.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate patient education.
  • Provides emergency medical care such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation and artificial respiration.
  • Monitor patients' physiological responses to therapy and consult with the provider if adverse reactions or conditions occur.
  • Appropriately clean and disinfect relevant equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and practice with little or no assistance, as applicable
  • Submit personal and professional goals annually
  • Requires competency evaluation
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Participates in a quality improvement activity
