About The Position

The Polysomnographic Technologist/RCP is a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) and Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with expert skills in conducting sleep studies, sleep staging and technical scoring of sleep events according to AASM standards, provides QA feedback. He/she works closely with the Team Leader, Supervisor, Manager and Medical Director to assure excellent quality in diagnostic and therapeutic services in the Sleep Lab. Provides excellent patient experience by following all protocols, policy and procedures and hospital values. Professional duties include patient assessment to determine patient specific needs, comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders, including polysomnography, extended EEG, MSLT/MWT, application and titration of oxygen, CPAP/BiPAP and ventilator, airway management, trach capping, blood gas sampling and analysis and patient/family education. Demonstrates skill in calibration and troubleshooting of diagnostic equipment, implementation of new test modalities. The RPSGT/RCP also assists in overseeing supply inventory, mentoring other staff, including orienting and supervising the work of new sleep technicians. Provides coverage as needed.

Requirements

  • Associates degree (Required).
  • PALS: Pediatric Advanced Life Support - American Heart Association.
  • RCP - Respiratory Care Professionals License - Ohio Respiratory Care Board.
  • RPSGT - Registered Polysomnographic Technologist - Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct sleep studies and technical scoring of sleep events according to AASM standards.
  • Provide QA feedback.
  • Work closely with the Team Leader, Supervisor, Manager, and Medical Director.
  • Ensure excellent quality in diagnostic and therapeutic services in the Sleep Lab.
  • Follow all protocols, policies, and procedures to provide excellent patient experience.
  • Perform patient assessment to determine specific needs.
  • Evaluate and treat sleep disorders including polysomnography, extended EEG, MSLT/MWT.
  • Apply and titrate oxygen, CPAP/BiPAP, and ventilator.
  • Manage airways, perform trach capping, and conduct blood gas sampling and analysis.
  • Educate patients and families.
  • Calibrate and troubleshoot diagnostic equipment.
  • Implement new test modalities.
  • Oversee supply inventory.
  • Mentor and supervise new sleep technicians.
  • Provide coverage as needed.
