About The Position

The Poly Prep Technician is responsible for preparing fiberglass and polyurethane parts or units for the production line. This includes trimming, sanding, patching, cleaning, and inspecting components to ensure they meet quality standards before assembly. This role requires working in environments where fiberglass dust and chemical odors may be present, wearing appropriate PPE, and following strict safety procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Prior manufacturing, assembly, or composite-material experience is a plus but not required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous fiberglass preparation or finishing experience is preferred.
  • Experience sanding, grinding, trimming, or prepping composite materials.
  • Familiarity with fiberglass components and polyurethane molds.
  • Ability to identify defects and perform minor repairs.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
  • Arrive on time and ensure the team is at their assigned workstations at the start of the shift.
  • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines; always be safety conscious.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively with team members to complete projects on time.
  • Ensure team members work safely while maintaining high-quality output.
  • Wear required PPE such as Tyvek suits, gloves, safety glasses, and respirators when necessary.
  • Follow proper procedures for handling fiberglass, chemicals, and tools in a potentially dusty or caustic environment.
  • Trim excess fiberglass or polyurethane from parts using cutting tools.
  • Sand surfaces to prepare for coating, bonding, or assembly.
  • Perform minor patching and repair of surface imperfections.
  • Clean parts thoroughly to remove dust, debris, and contaminants.
  • Inspect parts for defects, thickness inconsistencies, structural flaws, or surface issues.
  • Organize and stage prepped parts for the production line according to schedule.
  • Maintain an orderly and safe work area, ensuring tools and materials are stored properly.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, sanders, grinders, and other prep-related equipment safely.
  • Complete additional tasks or projects assigned by the Production Supervisor.
  • Participate in cross-training in related production tasks to ensure adequate coverage, support workflow demands and enhance overall team flexibility.
  • Assist with troubleshooting mechanical or operational issues on the production line as needed.
