About The Position

The Shirley Phillipson Pollock Internship in Art Librarianship offers a paid opportunity for prospective or current students of library or information science programs to gain experience working in an art museum library setting. The internship can be configured as a practicum to fulfill the requirements of the MLIS degree where applicable. Interns collaborate with professional staff and participate in the Mayer Library's daily activities while also contributing to special projects. This summer, the internship will be focused on collection management and technical services. The ideal candidate would be a student with an interest in cataloging library materials and an aptitude for detailed, focused work.

Requirements

  • Current student in a library and information science program
  • Interest in pursuing a career in the museum library or cataloging field
  • Completion of cataloging or related information organization coursework preferred
  • Ability to work in a stationary position at a desk, push and pull a book truck, bend and/or reach to retrieve materials on shelves, lift boxes up to 25 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Input bibliographic records into the library database following local standards
  • Perform end processing
  • Assist with post-system migration clean-up projects
  • Contribute to and collaborate with the library staff on special projects to achieve departmental goals
