About The Position

Position Purpose: Position is responsible for preparing the surface of the forged parts according to work instructions, shop orders, or customer specifications.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED;
  • No experience necessary
  • Must be able to use a gauge, pencil grinder, and polishing wheels;
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and follow instructions;
  • Ability to work under pressure and adhere to schedules;
  • Ability to operate hand tools such as spray gun and forge tongs;
  • Ability to work safely and keep area clean;
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with all levels of the organization;
  • Good verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work assigned shift and remain awake and alert during assigned shift is required;
  • Reporting to work for assigned shift, maintaining a physical presence and performing assigned work for the duration of assigned shift is required;
  • Able to communicate clearly, concisely and achieve intended objectives;
  • Ability to work in a variety of environments which may include exposure to extreme heat, humidity, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, loud noise, and all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and/or polish the surface of forged aluminum parts using a combination of powered hand tools or polishing machines;
  • Set up polisher using correct belt and dressing wheels to ensure quality polishing;
  • Understand the different polishing belts and wheels to obtain proper finish on part;
  • Ensure part is properly polished to meet quality requirements;
  • Inspect part before and after grinding;
  • Identify defects/non-conforming marks in the forged parts and how to remove the defect or mark through polishing;
  • Gauge polished parts to ensure polished part remains within customer requirements;
  • Understand alloys and different polishing finishes for the parts;
  • Work from production order, shop order, and/or direction of supervisor;
  • Follow work instructions on part polishing;
  • Identify issues with the equipment and notify supervisor and/or maintenance;
  • Maintain daily timekeeping and logging in and out of jobs on computer system;
  • Understand how to keep count of the parts and when to place parts on belt;
  • Complete appropriate paperwork such as daily checklists, routing sign offs, etc.
  • Maintain all necessary equipment and tools; ensure work area is clean and secure;
  • Follow all safety standards;
  • Inspect work upon completion to ensure product meets or exceeds quality expectations;
  • Assist and support other Polishers as needed;
  • Report unusual or unsafe conditions to supervisor;
  • Notify Quality of quality issues;
  • Identify problems and provide suggestions for improvement;
  • Actively participate in efforts to establish and promote a safe and healthy work environment. Follow policies, programs, and procedures for the reduction and elimination of industrial accidents and provide quality feedback to promote safer work behaviors and conditions
