About the position

The Policy Tax Specialist will be responsible for inputting and quality checking the tax reporting on all policy-based disbursements, including surrenders, death claims, 1035 exchanges, policy changes, and lapses. Additionally, the incumbent will perform calculations and updates to the tax reporting system for each disbursement and facilitate the mailing of tax forms, including audit controls.

Responsibilities

  • Inputting and quality checking the tax reporting upon insurance, annuity, and pension distributions
  • Processing taxpayer identification numbers to comply with IRS guidelines
  • Calculating cost basis and gain for all policy and annuity disbursements and exchanges
  • Facilitating all tax importing and tax form production
  • Facilitating annual mailings to clients to comply with IRS guidelines

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline a plus
  • Mathematical calculation skills, analytical skills and experience preferred
  • Must be able to comply with IRS deadlines
  • 2-5 years of business experience in the life and annuity industry preferred
  • Demonstrates customer focus and a keen appreciation for the needs and interests of clients
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and effectiveness in a collaborative work environment
  • Attentiveness to detail and the ability to work independently under pressure
  • Demonstrates commitment to expanding personal knowledge of life insurance operations (e.g., successful completion of LOMA courses - 280/281 & 290/291)
  • Ability to pass a background check that may include fingerprinting
