About The Position

The Policy Associate will support the Policy and Research department at Florida Rising, focusing on civil rights and community-led social justice initiatives. This role involves research and analysis related to key policy areas such as Housing Justice, Criminal Systems Reform, Voting Rights, Reproductive Justice, and Climate Justice. The associate will track legislation, assist during the Legislative Session, and provide logistical support to the Policy and Research Director.

Requirements

• Strong interest in issues impacting disenfranchised communities, particularly in Climate, Housing, Voting, Reproductive Rights, and/or Criminal Systems.
• Academic research experience, preferably in the social sciences.
• Commitment to Florida Rising's mission and comfort in diverse communities.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to meet deadlines.
• Curious and eager to learn more.
• Strong written communication skills and willingness to provide a writing sample.
• Ability to take direction, give clear feedback, and work independently on large tasks with multiple components.
• Experience moderating virtual meetings using platforms like Zoom and Google Meet is a plus.
• Bachelor's Degree preferred.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

• Build a body of research to support policy priorities by collaborating with the Policy and Research Director, Campaigns, and Organizing Departments.
• Track and monitor local and state policy affecting disenfranchised communities, particularly Black, brown, LGBTQ, immigrant, and working-class communities.
• Work closely with the Campaigns Team and Organizing Team to identify evidence-based legislation for the Justice On Every Block policy platforms.
• Assist the Policy and Research Director and Senior Political Advisor during the Legislative Session.
• Monitor current news and social media for relevant content regarding policy priorities.
• Collaborate with the Political Team to monitor local and state elected officials' vote records and support during endorsement processes.
• Identify emerging issues and areas of work that require further research.
• Perform other tasks as assigned.
