About The Position

The Policy and Risk Assurance Coordinator at George Mason University is responsible for establishing and managing the Youth Protection Program, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations related to youth-centered programs. This role involves oversight of policy development, training, and compliance activities for programs hosting minors, as well as serving as a subject matter expert for risk-related university policies. The coordinator will foster a culture of accountability and compliance within the university community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Professional experience in risk management, compliance, youth protection programs, or related fields.
  • Knowledge of higher education compliance and risk management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and database applications.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse groups.
  • Ability to make sound judgments in high-consequence situations.
  • Valid driver's license meeting GMU's requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain a Youth Protection Program consistent with laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Maintain a database of information on all university programs involving participation of minors.
  • Oversee retention of related records and forward issues requiring investigation to appropriate units.
  • Report data, metrics, issues, and incidents to stakeholders regarding program risk assessments and policy updates.
  • Foster a culture of compliance through outreach and engagement with university programs hosting minors.
  • Monitor and review regulatory and legislative changes impacting youth programs and implement necessary changes.
  • Monitor background clearance and training requirements for individuals working in youth-centered programs.
  • Act as a subject matter expert to evaluate and resolve youth protection questions and issues.
  • Participate in university, regional, and national committees related to youth compliance.
  • Represent the university at youth compliance-related conferences.
  • Create and implement training and educational programs for departments sponsoring youth programs.
  • Educate youth program managers on compliance and best practices.
  • Track and monitor training participation in a centralized database.
  • Manage resources for the implementation of a Youth Compliance Program.
  • Manage the content of a 'protection of minors' website and oversee program registrations.
