About The Position

The New York State Senate is seeking two Policy Analysts for the Senate Majority Counsel's Office of Policy and Research. The role involves providing research and policy analysis to support the Majority Conference, drafting legislative memoranda, and preparing briefing materials for Senate members. The position requires strong writing and research skills, and the ability to work flexible hours during the legislative session.

Requirements

• Legislative experience
• Strong writing, research, and oratory skills
• Preference for candidates with advanced degrees or equivalent work experience
• Ability to work flexible hours, including extensive nights and weekends during the legislative session

Responsibilities

• Providing research, policy analysis, and central staff support for the Majority Conference
• Drafting memoranda analyzing policy initiatives and state legislation
• Preparing briefing materials in a wide range of policy areas for members of the Majority Conference
• Assisting Senators in preparation for Senate floor debates
• Drafting briefing books, white papers, and other research material on long-term legislation areas
• Working collaboratively with other members of the team when necessary
• Generating new ideas for potential legislation
• Other tasks that may be necessary in support of legislative and Majority Conference activity
