About The Position

The Governor’s Office is seeking a Policy Advisor specializing in Education and Tax Policy to join our Policy Team. This role is critical to advancing the Governor’s priorities in K-12 and higher education, workforce development, and state tax policy. As a trusted advisor, you will help shape and implement policy initiatives that impact Montana’s schools, families, and economy.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of education systems and tax policy.
  • Experience in policy development, legislative processes, or government relations.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and develop policy proposals related to K-12 and higher education, workforce development, and state tax policy.
  • Prepare briefing materials and advise the Governor, Lt. Governor, and senior staff on education, workforce, and tax issues.
  • Build relationships with constituents, school districts, educators, legislators, and business leaders to advance the Governor’s agenda.
  • Draft and monitor legislation; testify before legislative committees on priority bills.
  • Coordinate with state agencies, including the Department of Revenue, Department of Labor and Industry, and Office of Public Instruction, to implement policy changes.
  • Represent the Governor at education, labor, and tax policy forums, conferences, and stakeholder meetings.
