About The Position

The Policy Advisor position at the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is a full-time, exempt role focused on providing strategic advice and project support on major policy issues. Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree or higher in political science, planning, public policy, business administration, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing high-priority projects with multiple interests.
  • Experience building and managing relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Ability to apply a racial equity and justice lens to work.
  • Strong writing and communication skills for targeted audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in environmental policy or natural resource management.
  • Knowledge of Washington State's historical, social, economic, and political context regarding natural resources.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic advice, consultation, and research on policy issues.
  • Manage a variety of agency priority policies, plans, and projects.
  • Coordinate with DNR staff, external partners, and government agencies on policy development.
  • Develop scope, timeline, and budget implications for policies and programs.
  • Conduct research on the impacts of legislation and support the legislative process.
  • Incorporate environmental justice practices into policy development.
  • Draft proposals, memos, and other communication materials to achieve policy objectives.
  • Build coalitions and work with diverse interest groups to resolve conflicts.
