About the position

Under supervision, performs a variety of duties to an assigned area of responsibility such as identifying and apprehending criminal violators; controls and maintains public order and safety; performs related duties as required. Assists the patrol division by working in areas where extra manpower is needed. Patrols assigned geographic areas to identify and deter criminal activity and public safety hazards. Assists with special events. Transfers prisoners to/from the Rowlett City Jail to county jails or to medical facilities as needed. May assist with writing reports of offenses, accidents, arrests and other public safety incidents; directs traffic; intervenes and mediates in crises situations and all types of disputes; performs building and residence security checks; provides high law enforcement visibility to deter crime and inspire community sense of security; refers citizens with non-law enforcement problems to appropriate social service agencies. Attend shift briefings; obtain assignments and equipment. Communicate with other officers, detectives, district attorney's office about cases. Performs related duties and special projects as assigned. Responsible for regular attendance and arriving to work on time. Must be able to testify in court based on Brady v. Maryland and the Michael Morton Act.

Requirements

  • Copy of Basic Peace Officer's Certificate for the State of Texas (TCOLE).
  • Minimum of two years full time experience as a licensed Texas Peace Officer.
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Good knowledge of modern law enforcement practices and procedures.
  • Good knowledge of criminal structures and traffic ordinances.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Good knowledge of local, state and federal laws.
  • Ability to remain calm and decisive under extreme stress.
  • Skill in analysis and problem solving techniques.
  • Skill in the use of negotiation and mediation techniques.
  • Skill in the use of communication equipment.
  • Skill in the use and care of firearms.
  • Ability to physically restrain subjects and make arrests.
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts including weekends.
  • Maintain TCOLE License.
  • Valid Texas Class 'C' Driver's License.
  • Must have and maintain a good driving record.

  • Vision 20/200, correctable to 20/20.
