About The Position

The Police Sergeant supervises Police Officers and other department employees in the enforcement of local, state, and federal laws, and tribal law in provision of personal, real property, and equipment security throughout the Stillaguamish Tribe. The role involves supervising the investigation and documentation of crimes and incidents, documenting and presenting evidence, and providing legal testimony.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • High School graduate or GED equivalent.
  • U.S. Citizen.
  • Ten (10) years of continuous service as a police officer and one (1) year as a police supervisor holding the rank of sergeant or above.
  • Must be certified in accordance with the Washington State Criminal Justice Training center and in good standing with no pending decertification actions.
  • A valid Washington State Driver’s License upon hire and acceptable driving record.
  • All employees must pass a pre-employment FBI fingerprint background and state background check.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises police officers in performance of regularly assigned patrols and incident investigations.
  • Reviews police documentation including incident and accident reports and daily logs for accuracy and compliance with criminal, motor vehicle, and traffic laws.
  • Conducts accident and crime investigations and prepares detailed reports.
  • Provides public assistance, including lockout services, escorts, first aid, and vehicle jump-starts.
  • Processes evidence, prepares court cases, and provides legal testimony.
  • Conducts inspections of police personnel and equipment; issues and accounts for police equipment.
  • Represents the department at community and business meetings.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • Investigate all crimes that occur within the lands owned by the Stillaguamish Tribe of Indians.
  • Prepare written reports when necessary that document incidents that occur within Tribal lands.
  • Enforce the Stillaguamish Tribal Law and Order Code to include the Fish and Wildlife Code.
  • Defend the Stillaguamish Tribe against those who endanger the public peace or safety.
  • Execute the process and orders of the courts of justice or judicial officers when delivered for that purpose according to law.
  • Attend the sessions of the courts of record held within the Stillaguamish jurisdiction and obey their lawful orders or directives.
  • Keep and preserve the peace in the Stillaguamish jurisdiction, patrol the lands owned by the Stillaguamish Tribe.
