About The Position

The City of Hemet is accepting applications for Police Reserve Officer LEVEL II. This position is unpaid and involves patrolling with a regular police officer in an assigned area in the City. The officer will receive special assignments in related police work, must attend scheduled training meetings once a month, work a minimum of 20 hours per month, and pass quarterly firearms qualification.

Requirements

  • Must have successfully completed a POST-approved Basic Police Recruit or Level II Reserve Academy.
  • High School graduate or equivalent (GED).
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Class C California driver's license prior to appointment.
  • Candidates must be 21 years of age by date of appointment.
  • Must have U.S. Citizen or permanent resident alien status.
  • Must not possess any felony convictions.
  • Candidates must meet standards of physical stature, endurance, and agility established by the City.
  • Vision correctable to 20/20 in one eye, 20/30 in the other eye, uncorrected not greater than 20/100; normal color vision; and normal hearing.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in patrolling, either in a vehicle or on foot, an assigned area during an assigned shift and looks for indicators of possible criminal activity or threats to life and property.
  • Enforces City, county, and state laws; makes field contacts and completes forms.
  • Conducts both preliminary and follow-up investigations of disturbances, prowlers, burglaries, thefts, robberies, vehicle accidents, suspected homicides, and other criminal incidents.
  • Assists patrol officers in making arrests; serving warrants; interviewing victims, complainants, and witnesses; fingerprints and transports prisoners; and testifies in court.
  • Writes reports and field notes; participates in training meetings; attends and participates in quarterly firearms qualifications.
  • Assists patrol officers in making traffic stops and with the issuance of warnings, citations, or arrests, as necessary.
  • Checks vehicles and observes vehicle occupants; investigates scenes of vehicle accidents; directs traffic; interviews drivers and witnesses and prepares reports.
  • Directs traffic at fire, special events, and other emergency or congested situations.
  • May participate in or be assigned to special programs such as crime prevention and investigations.
  • Establishes and maintains good relationships with the general public.
