The Police & Public Safety Trainer, in conjunction with the Captain/Supervisor of Training is responsible for coordinating all training and education for police and public safety personnel and In-service trainings in order to maintain compliance with state mandates for required training hours and other training needs of the department.

  • Provides monthly summary of training activity to the Captain/Supervisor of Training.
  • Works closely with the Captain/Supervisor of Training regarding Use of Force to identify gaps in policies and trainings to ensure our officers are trained in best practices.
  • Continues to build relationships with local law enforcement trainers.
  • Reviews and assesses current training effectiveness and designs benchmarks for future training effectiveness, making recommendations to the Captain/Supervisor of Training based on current trends and best practices in law enforcement, public safety and communications.
  • Coordinates, develops, facilitates, tracks, records, approves, and reports all trainings conducted by police and public safety personnel on behalf of Parkview Health within the department, the health system, and the community at large.
  • Coordinates and conducts de-escalation, situational awareness, and physical tactics training across the health system for Parkview co-workers.
  • Coordinates Spillman training.
  • Dispatch training on all aspects of the job duties including APCO certifications.
  • Other trainings and education as needed.
  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • Valid Driver's License required by all trainers with no or minimal infractions.
  • Certification as a trainer in the De-escalation, Situational Awareness, and Physical Tactics programs being used by Parkview Health is required within ninety (90) days of employment.
  • Certified law enforcement officer through the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Training Board for those tasked with training police officers in state mandated courses.
  • Certified Law Enforcement Primary Instructor through the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board within 6 months of accepting the position.
  • Certified in 1 (Preferred 2) of the 3 Psychomotor Skills of instruction through the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board, i.e. Defensive Tactics, Emergency Vehicle Operations, and/or Firearms within 6 months of accepting the position.
  • Certification and/or appropriate experience in the topic being instructed for those tasked with training and educating in non-mandated courses, or training non-sworn public safety officers or dispatchers.
