About The Position

The Police Property Specialist I position involves responsible manual and clerical work within the Police Property Section of the City of Miami. The role focuses on the systematic receipt, storage, maintenance, and issuance of various police property items, including uniforms, weapons, supplies, and vehicles. The specialist will also handle physical evidence, impounded vehicles, and lost and found property, ensuring proper documentation and inventory management. This position requires flexibility in scheduling, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and involves light to moderate physical demands.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Six months of stock clerk or clerical experience involving moderate lifting and manual labor.
  • A valid Driver's License from any state, with a requirement to obtain a State of Florida Driver's License (Class E or higher) prior to appointment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in inventory management or property control.
  • Familiarity with police procedures and evidence handling.

Responsibilities

  • Receives, stores, and releases impounded vehicles, collecting related towing charges and storage fees.
  • Receives, stores, and releases personal property, issuing receipts and preparing appropriate records of these transactions.
  • Handles confiscated articles, items of evidence, and lost and found materials that come into the custody of the Police Department.
  • Checks quantity and condition of incoming supplies and property against invoices and other records, moving items to appropriate storage facilities.
  • Takes inventories and maintains appropriate inventory records, preparing inventory reports for distribution.
  • Performs light lifting of up to 15 lbs and may be required to perform moderate to heavy lifting on occasion.
  • Operates a keyboard or typewriter in preparing records not requiring a high level of typing proficiency.
  • May testify in court regarding the history and identity of items of physical evidence.
  • Serves as a guard at the vehicle pound and assists at the auction of unclaimed property.
