About The Position
The Sumter SC Police Department is seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as Police Patrol Officers. This role is essential in providing a safe and secure environment for the citizens of Sumter, SC, while also working to enhance the overall quality of life in the community. As a Patrol Officer, you will be responsible for performing general patrol and traffic duties, ensuring the enforcement of laws and ordinances within the city. Your primary focus will be on protecting the lives and property of citizens, responding to incidents, and conducting preliminary investigations when necessary. In this position, you will patrol designated zones, observing and checking on homes, businesses, and the general welfare of citizens. You will respond to specific incidents relayed by dispatch, assist stranded motorists, direct traffic, and look for traffic violators, issuing tickets as needed. Additionally, you will answer calls and radio dispatches involving various incidents, including automobile accidents, misdemeanors, felonies, and domestic disturbances. A critical part of your role will involve preparing detailed written incident reports and maintaining various records, such as police records, accident reports, and booking reports. The ideal candidate will exemplify honor, integrity, and respect, providing exceptional service to both internal and external customers. You will also be expected to perform other duties as requested by your superiors, contributing to the overall effectiveness of the police department.
