About The Position

Under general supervision and administrative direction, the Police Officer has the primary responsibility to provide emergency and non-emergency response to individuals and entities that request or require support services on properties of the Tucson Airport Authority (TAA) at Tucson International Airport (TUS) and Ryan Airfield (RYN). The officer ensures all federal regulations pertinent to safety, security, and emergency management are followed, and that the laws of the State of Arizona and of the United States are enforced as they pertain to the jurisdiction of the TAA. The officer must understand and adhere to department and TAA policies.

Requirements

  • A minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
  • United States Citizenship.
  • Arizona Police Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Board certified.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of FAA FAR Part 139, TSA Part 1542, ADOT standards, NIMS/ICS, and all other pertinent Local, State, and Federal codes, regulations and standards.
  • Ability to speak Spanish or another second language.

Responsibilities

  • Support and advocate for TAA's Mission, Vision, Guiding Principles and act as a champion and role-model of TAA's Cultural Fundamentals.
  • Ensure compliance with all Federal, State, and local laws, rules and regulations, and TAA policies and procedures in the performance of TAA's Police activities.
  • Protect life and property and provide public safety within departmental policies and guidelines.
  • Perform law enforcement patrol activities and enforce laws; maintain public order; maintain high visibility to deter and prevent crime.
  • Observe criminal behavior and employ crime prevention techniques; operate patrol vehicles; pursue offenders by patrol vehicle and on foot.
  • Conduct investigations; issue summonses/citations and warnings; stop and/or arrest resisting offenders using appropriate force.
  • Search persons, places and things for discovery of evidence or weapons; seize and impound property and evidence.
  • Transport persons and property.
  • Perform law enforcement tasks mandated by TSA regulations Part 1542 and FAA regulations FAR Part 139.
  • Utilize the Incident Management System (ICS)/National Incident Management System (NIMS) protocols and procedures.
  • Be responsive to airport emergencies and situations that may involve loss of human life or property.
  • Manage emergency and non-emergency contacts, including radio and telephone communications.
  • Communicate effectively, in person and/or by radio or telephone.
  • Mediate disputes in civil or criminal matters, using sound judgment.
  • Perform crowd and riot control activities, including evacuation.
  • Conduct law enforcement investigations; conduct interviews, record information; measure and diagram crime and traffic accident scenes.
  • Dictate detailed reports of investigative findings, complete all appropriate paperwork; seize and process evidence.
  • Present testimony and evidence in both civil and criminal court proceedings.
  • Perform public assistance activities to include first aid to sick and injured persons; assist motorists; direct traffic.
