The City of Muskogee is hiring Police Officers due to a national shortage. The role involves enforcing city ordinances, state and federal laws, and performing tasks as directed by the Chief of Police. Police Officers are responsible for protecting life and property, preventing crime, apprehending criminals, and enforcing laws and ordinances. This is a non-exempt, entry-level position that requires sound independent judgment under stress. Work assignments may vary and are supervised through reports and inspections.

  • Patrol the city in a police vehicle to enforce laws and prevent crime.
  • Protect and rescue the public from criminal activity and hazards.
  • Direct traffic and enforce traffic laws and regulations.
  • Investigate traffic accidents.
  • Accept assignments in patrol, investigative, and services divisions.
  • Serve as a member of specialized teams such as Special Operations, K-9, or undercover units.
  • Write reports, make arrests, and transport prisoners.
  • Conduct investigations into criminal activity.
  • Testify in court and serve warrants.
  • Train new Police Officers and prepare evaluation reports.
  • Must be between 21 and 45 years of age.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must pass the written examination and physical agility examination.
  • Must meet the Oklahoma Police Pension and Retirement System's medical standards.
  • Must pass all psychological examinations required by the Department.
  • Must successfully complete state certification.
  • Experience in law enforcement or related fields.
