About The Position

The Sioux Falls Police Department is seeking Police Officers to serve, protect, and promote the quality of life in Sioux Falls. The SFPD emphasizes community-oriented policing through various engagement programs. New officers receive nine months of paid training, including eight weeks of in-service training, 13 weeks at the LET state academy, and 15 weeks on the street with PTOs. The department boasts a $55 million state-of-the-art Public Safety Campus with advanced training facilities. Work/life balance is supported through an annual shift-bid system, generous vacation time, sick leave, and personal days, with most schedules consisting of four 10-hour shifts followed by three days off. The department is currently accepting applications for its October 26th, 2026, recruitment class, with an average hiring process of 2-3 months. There is no residency requirement and no state income tax in South Dakota.
