Counter Terrorism Policing North West (CTPNW) is a five-force collaboration delivering specialist counter terrorism services across the region and forming part of the national CT network. Our mission is simple yet vital: to work together to keep people safe from terrorism. The Counter Terrorism Intelligence Officer will play a critical role in safeguarding national security by: Establishing whether individuals are engaged in the commission, preparation, or instigation of acts of terrorism. Gathering, assessing, and disseminating intelligence relating to Counter Terrorism, Domestic Extremism, Counter Espionage, Counter Proliferation, and Serious & Organised Crime. Reporting on the movement of individuals and groups who may be involved in such activities.

  • Establishing whether individuals are engaged in the commission, preparation, or instigation of acts of terrorism.
  • Gathering, assessing, and disseminating intelligence relating to Counter Terrorism, Domestic Extremism, Counter Espionage, Counter Proliferation, and Serious & Organised Crime.
  • Reporting on the movement of individuals and groups who may be involved in such activities.
  • High level of interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to utilise interview techniques to a high standard, eliciting relevant intelligence and producing accurate reports for internal departments and external partner agencies.
  • Strong report writing skills, meeting the high standards required for dissemination to agencies and partners outside the organisation.
  • Sound understanding of current national security matters to ensure intelligence is interpreted accurately.
  • Experience in information handling and assessment, with the ability to research, analyse, and report effectively to meet departmental needs.
  • Ability to work independently, manage tasks efficiently, and demonstrate self‑motivation, confidence, and flexibility in responding to change.
  • Fully trained in the use of Force IT systems including PNC, NICHE, CORVUS, and STORM.

  • You must be a UK national. In approved cases, dual nationals (where one nationality is British) may be considered.
  • Applicants must hold or be willing to undergo National Security Vetting (SC Enhanced) before appointment and be prepared for Developed Vetting (DV) if required.
  • Applicants should have resided in the UK for the last 5–10 years.
