About The Position

Performs a variety of law enforcement duties in the preservation of public peace and prevention of crimes, including protecting life and property, enforcing all laws and ordinances, investigating crimes and accidents, making arrests, providing credible testimony in various courts, conducting traffic surveys to determine problem areas, assisting in school and community functions, as well as, public relations activities, and other cases as assigned.

Requirements

  • 21 years of age as of January 4, 2026
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and the ability to obtain and maintain a City of Hoover Driver's Permit
  • U.S. Citizen
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Qualified candidates must successfully complete APOST minimum standards, or attain APOST certification, within six months from date of employment with the City of Hoover Police Department
  • Applicants who meet minimum qualifications will be scheduled to participate in a written examination scheduled for Friday, January 23, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.
  • In order to be eligible for employment with the Hoover Police Department a candidate must successfully complete the Physical Agilities/Abilities Test.
  • Applicants who pass the written examination will be scheduled to participate in the Physical Agilities/Abilities Test scheduled for Tuesday, February 3 , 2025, at 9:00 a.m.
