About The Position

The purpose of this position is to perform police activities and emergency response in the interest of public safety. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Responds to calls for service by patrolling assigned district, enforcing laws and ordinances, issuing citations, making arrests, serving subpoenas, and answering citizen complaints. Investigates crimes, accidents, or violations by conducting witness and suspect interviews, following up on leads, and completing assigned cases. Performs field operations by conducting surveillance, organizing and directing officers, and executing search and arrest warrants. Prepares documentation of incidents, reports, and search warrants and maintains files. Attends court and testifies if necessary. Supplemental Functions: Performs other similar duties as required.

Requirements

  • North Carolina General Statutes
  • Basic rules and regulations of criminal investigations, federal, state, city, and department
  • Basic Police investigative and identification techniques
  • Geography of the City of Concord
  • Firearms
  • Computers
  • Possession or ability to obtain North Carolina Basic Law Enforcement Certification. Failure to obtain within twelve (12) months of hire may result in termination.
  • Possession or ability to obtain a valid North Carolina Driver’s License within sixty (60) days. Failure to obtain within sixty (60) days may result in termination.
  • Applicants must meet the City criteria for an acceptable driving record.
  • Understanding instructions, both oral and written
  • Use of firearms

  • Using computers and applicable software applications
  • Properly maintaining necessary paperwork
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction
