About The Position

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Possess a valid P.O.S.T. Certificate of Eligibility or a P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate in good standing.
  • Eligible to be a peace officer in the State of California.
  • Valid California driver's license.
  • Working knowledge of current law enforcement methods and procedures.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to resolve sensitive situations.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including report writing.

  • Bilingual skills to communicate with a diverse community.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce local, county, and state laws.
  • Investigate criminal and non-criminal occurrences, make arrests, interview witnesses, transport prisoners, and testify in court as required.
  • Patrol the campus and other property owned or operated by the University.
  • Investigate traffic collisions, enforce traffic laws, provide safety escorts, and respond to emergencies as needed.
  • Build rapport with students, staff, and visitors to promote public trust and community-oriented policing.
  • Write reports to accurately describe events and may include drafting traffic collision sketches and crime scene diagrams.
  • Participate in public speaking engagements and communicate effectively with a diverse community.
  • Participate in training to meet all requirements established by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST).
  • Act as Officer-in-Charge in the absence of the Sergeant or Corporal.
