About the position

The position involves patrolling areas within the City limits and enforcing state and local laws. Responsibilities include investigating crimes against persons and property, traffic accidents, apprehending and arresting criminals, serving warrants, and processing bookings and photographs. The role also emphasizes promoting good public relations, providing house security checks, emergency protection, and conducting security stand-by. Engaging in Community Oriented Policing activities and providing information and assistance to the public are key aspects of the job. The officer will prepare and present cases in court, respond to emergency alarms, deescalate various situations, and identify mental illnesses. Additional duties include serving as a guardian to those in need, processing various reports, performing crime scene processing, rolling fingerprints, utilizing problem-solving skills, and assisting other law enforcement agencies as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Processes bookings and photographs.

  • Provides house security checks and emergency protection.
  • Conducts security stand-by and provides money escorts.
  • Engages in Community Oriented Policing activities.
  • Provides information and assistance to the public.
  • Prepares and presents cases in court.
  • Responds to emergency alarms including burglar alarms and assaults.
  • Deescalates situations involving various individuals in crisis.
  • Prosecutes cases in courtroom settings.
  • Identifies mental illnesses and acts accordingly.
  • Serves as a guardian to those in need.
  • Receives, reviews, processes, and submits various reports and records.
  • Performs crime scene processing as necessary.
  • Rolls fingerprints for criminals and citizens.
  • Utilizes problem-solving skills for peaceable resolutions.
  • Operates computers with various applications.
  • Assists other law enforcement agencies as needed.
  • Performs desk and dispatch duties as needed.
  • Serves as backup to co-workers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy certification or equivalent.
  • Any combination of education and experience totaling two (2) years.
  • Valid South Carolina Driver's License.
  • SFST and Datamaster certifications.
