About The Position

This position is responsible for the enforcement of federal, state, and local laws and the protection of life and property. Officers will conduct investigations into witnessed or alleged criminal activity, interview and take statements from witnesses, victims, and suspects, and collect and process physical evidence, including submitting evidence for laboratory testing. They will respond to calls for service in all types of emergency situations, patrol assigned areas, perform traffic enforcement duties, document incidents, assist in the preparation of court documents, serve arrest warrants, and maintain assigned vehicles and equipment. Officers may also serve on special teams and task forces, and complete required training.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws, criminal and traffic codes, search and seizure laws, town ordinances, and department policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of traffic accident investigation techniques and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the geography and streets of the city.
  • Knowledge of the court system and judicial procedures.
  • Skill in the use of a computer.
  • Skill in operating police vehicles, firearms, and emergency equipment.
  • Skill in operating radios and communications equipment.
  • Skill in operating radar equipment.
  • Skill in restraining persons without causing physical harm.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts investigations into witnessed or alleged criminal activity.
  • Interviews and takes statements from witnesses, victims, and suspects.
  • Collects and processes physical evidence, including submitting evidence for laboratory testing.
  • Responds to calls for service in all types of emergency situations.
  • Patrols assigned area and conducts proactive law enforcement.
  • Performs traffic enforcement duties and issues citations.
  • Documents incidents and prepares required reports.
  • Assists in the preparation of court documents, including search and arrest warrants.
  • Serves arrest warrants, search warrants, and criminal subpoenas.
  • Performs the duties of a Field Training Officer as assigned.
  • Serves on special teams and task forces as assigned.
  • Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment.
  • Completes required training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • $32.00/hour starting pay.
  • $4.00/hour night shift differential.
  • Lateral sign-on bonus of $13,000 for officers from agencies with 20 or more certified officers.
  • Lateral sign-on bonus of $10,500 for officers from agencies with 19 or fewer certified officers.
