About The Position

The Modesto Police Department is seeking candidates ready to serve as Police Officer Recruits. The role involves participating in a Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) - certified Basic Law Enforcement Academy, leading to graduation and certification to become a sworn Police Officer Trainee with the City. Applicants must submit POST-certified entrance examination test results with their application, showing a minimum t-score of 42.0 dated within 12 months. Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be invited to a physical agility examination and a selection interview. The department is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Requirements

• Minimum of 20 years of age at time of application.
• High School diploma or GED equivalency.
• Completion of a minimum of 15 units of college coursework from an accredited college or university is desirable.
• Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license.
• Ability to learn proper police procedures and methods.
• Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in a related field is desirable.
• Possession of an associate's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.

Responsibilities

• Attend classroom activities and participate in the learning process.
• Complete classroom assignments and projects as required.
• Participate in physical activities to earn a passing grade on the POST physical agility exam.
• Participate in the firearms course to achieve a qualifying score for firearms qualification.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers and the public.
• Observe and maintain a safe working environment.
