About The Position

The Englewood Police Department is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Police Officer. Applicants must possess a Colorado P.O.S.T. certification, peace officer certification from another state, or be currently attending a Colorado P.O.S.T. Approved Academy. Candidates are required to complete an online application and the Police Officer Written Exam (NTN) for their application to be accepted. The testing services are conducted through the National Testing Network (NTN), and candidates must register and schedule their tests accordingly. Successful candidates will be placed on the agency's eligibility list for further hiring steps. The position offers a structured salary scale based on class levels, with opportunities for lateral entry for qualified applicants.

Requirements

  • Colorado P.O.S.T. certification or equivalent from another state.
  • High school graduate or equivalent with 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours from an accredited institution, or 3 years of patrol experience as a P.O.S.T. certified officer.
  • Valid Colorado driver's license or valid Colorado driver's license within 30 days of residing in Colorado.
  • Ability to undergo a background check, including criminal record check, motor vehicle records check, polygraph, psychological examination, and medical evaluation.

Nice To Haves

  • 3 or more years of active-duty military service with an Honorable Discharge may substitute for college credit requirement.
  • Experience in law enforcement or related fields.

Responsibilities

  • Patrols assigned areas within the city to deter illegal activities and protect individuals, buildings, and neighborhoods.
  • Maintains a high level of customer service and responds rapidly to changing conditions.
  • Responds to calls for service and investigates citizen complaints, including crimes in progress, disturbances, and requests for information.
  • Performs preliminary investigations and interviews at crime scenes and traffic accidents.
  • Collects and preserves physical evidence and documents specific crimes and incidents.
  • Performs traffic enforcement activities and prepares citations for violations.
  • Makes arrests and takes suspects into custody, including searching and booking individuals.
  • Provides sworn testimony in criminal and civil trials associated with investigations.
  • Prepares routine and non-routine reports necessary for daily activities and incident disclosures.
  • Offers assistance and information to citizens and visitors, providing community service functions.
