About The Position

The Police Officer or Master Police Officer at the University of North Carolina Wilmington is responsible for enforcing state and local laws as well as campus regulations. This role involves full law enforcement authority, including the apprehension of criminal offenders, traffic enforcement, and conducting criminal investigations. Officers are tasked with maintaining peace, deterring crime, and protecting lives and property on university grounds.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer in accordance with North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission or ability to achieve certification within one year of employment.
  • Associates degree or higher preferred, along with experience in a campus environment.
  • Prior certification as a law enforcement officer or military police experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce state and local laws and campus regulations.
  • Apprehend criminal offenders and conduct criminal investigations.
  • Perform traffic enforcement duties.
  • Serve warrants and summons as required.
  • Maintain high visibility patrols to deter crime.
  • Respond to emergency situations and apply emergency response principles.
  • Prepare routine reports of activities and incidents investigated.
  • Communicate effectively with the public and legal representatives.
  • Apply laws relating to the rights of suspects and search and seizure procedures.
  • Maintain proficiency in the use of firearms and other law enforcement equipment.
