About The Position

Performs a variety of law enforcement duties in the preservation of public peace and prevention of crimes, including protecting life and property, enforcing all laws and ordinances, investigating crimes and accidents, making arrests, providing credible testimony in various courts, conducting traffic surveys to determine problem areas, assisting in school and community functions, as well as, public relations activities, and other cases as assigned.

Requirements

21 years of age as of April 16, 2026
Possession of a valid driver's license and the ability to obtain and maintain a City of Hoover Driver's Permit
U.S. Citizen
Ability to pass a background check
High School Diploma or GED
Qualified candidates must successfully complete APOST minimum standards, or attain APOST certification, within six months from date of employment with the City of Hoover Police Department.
Police Officer candidates who meet the minimum requirements and achieve a passing score on the written examination and physical agilities/abilities test will be further screened through our evaluation process, which considers related work experience, education, certifications and special training.
Police Officer candidate finalists will then be evaluated based on personal interviews.
