About The Position

The Modesto Police Department is seeking experienced Police Officers to perform law enforcement and crime prevention work. The Police Officer will control traffic flow, enforce State and local municipal codes, perform investigative work, and provide support to special crime prevention and enforcement programs. The role includes a variety of technical and administrative tasks in support of the department.

Requirements

  • At least one year of full-time experience as a sworn peace officer with a California law enforcement agency.
  • Minimum of a Basic POST certificate issued by the California Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training.
  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
  • Completion of a minimum of 15 units of college coursework from an accredited college or university is desirable.
  • Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license at time of application; valid California driver's license by time of appointment.
  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age at date of application.
  • Must meet the physical requirements of the job established by the department.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol assigned areas and interact with the community.
  • Receive calls through dispatch and respond to requests for police services.
  • Perform problem-oriented policing functions and duties.
  • Interview/question individuals as required.
  • Conduct lawful stops, pursuits, searches of persons or property, detentions, citations, and arrests.
  • Secure crime and accident scenes.
  • Collect and preserve evidence.
  • Respond to traffic accidents for investigation of cause, traffic control, hazard removal, and conduct traffic accident analysis.
  • Complete accurate, complete, and timely reports and booking of evidence.
  • Testify and present evidence in court proceedings.
  • Investigate crimes, perform administrative duties, conduct crime prevention, or conduct training for other personnel based on assignment.
