Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must satisfactorily meet the current employment standards of the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) and CSUN Minimum Standards of Employment and Training.
  • Must be free of any felony convictions and have good moral character.
  • Must meet pre-employment requirements including physical exam with drug testing, psychological exam, and pass a comprehensive POST background investigation.
  • Eligible to be a peace officer in the State of California.
  • Successful completion of the California POST Basic Course required.
  • Possession of a California POST Basic Certificate preferred.
  • Must possess a valid California driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Protect students, faculty, staff, campus visitors, property, and facilities from accidents, bodily harm, fire, theft, vandalism, and other criminal activity.
  • Enforce laws and traffic/parking regulations; apprehend violators.
  • Provide general information and assistance to the public, and assist in investigations.
  • Patrol campus buildings and grounds by foot, bicycle, electric vehicle, motorcycle, and patrol car.
  • Control crowds during assemblies or disturbances; guard property.
  • Utilize a community-policing approach to engage with the campus community.
  • Investigate and prepare reports on accidents, property damage, fires, law violations, thefts, and disturbances of the peace.
  • Gather evidence; make arrests and appear in court as required.
  • Respond to emergencies, control traffic, and enforce laws.
  • Provide crime prevention programs and administer first aid to injured persons.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
