About The Position

The position involves patrolling assigned areas in business and residential sections to maintain order, enforce laws, and respond to various calls including domestic disputes, traffic accidents, and public service duties. Officers will conduct preliminary inquiries, field interviews, and follow-up investigations, as well as apprehend and process offenders. The role requires providing assistance to other officers, first aid to victims, and traffic direction during events. Officers must complete required reports and maintain their patrol vehicles. This position is safety-sensitive and requires passing a physical ability test.

Requirements

• Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
• Must possess a NC Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) certification.
• Ability to read, write, and perform mathematical calculations at a high school level.
• Possession of or ability to obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina.
• Ability to meet current requirements set forth by the North Carolina Training and Standards Commission.
• Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws, criminal and traffic codes, and city ordinances.
• Knowledge of traffic investigation techniques and procedures.
• Knowledge of the geographical layout of the city and first aid.
• Skill in oral and written communication and the use of firearms and communication equipment.

Nice To Haves

• Applicants who have successfully completed NC Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) are preferred.
• Sworn law enforcement agents, officers, and deputies from other states are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Patrol assigned areas to detect and deter criminal activity and traffic violations.
• Respond to calls including domestic disputes, assaults, burglaries, and traffic accidents.
• Conduct preliminary inquiries, field interviews, and follow-up investigations.
• Obtain and serve search and criminal warrants; apprehend and process offenders.
• Provide assistance and backup support to other officers as necessary.
• Provide first aid to victims and assist motorists.
• Direct traffic for events such as parades and school crossings.
• Testify in judicial proceedings and complete required reports and forms.
• Transport prisoners from police headquarters to detention facilities.
• Inspect and maintain patrol car.
