About The Position

The Police Officer III position at the University of Utah involves performing a wide range of law enforcement duties to ensure the safety and security of the university community. Requirements

  • At least 9 years of experience as a Police Officer.
  • Certification as a Utah Post LEO (Law Enforcement Officer) prior to hire.
  • Must be a United States citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident with legal authorization to work in the U.S.
  • A valid Utah Driver's License to be obtained upon date of hire.
  • Considerable human relations and communication skills.
  • Must pass a department-approved physical fitness test and a thorough background investigation.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Criminology, Police Science, or a related area is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls, providing assistance and filing reports.
  • Conducts or assists in criminal, narcotics, traffic, and gang-related investigations.
  • Assists in gathering intelligence from other law enforcement agencies and the public.
  • Prepares written reports and maintains accurate records for investigations and court purposes.
  • Performs surveillance in high-risk areas to apprehend suspects.
  • Obtains and serves search/arrest warrants and performs warrantless searches as necessary.
  • Interviews and interrogates witnesses and suspects to gather information.
  • Prepares cases for the Office of the Attorney General and testifies in court.
  • Participates in the motorist assist program to promote a positive public image.
  • Maintains issued equipment and supplies.
  • Assists in training new officers and instructs classes for public groups.
  • Uses logic and reasoning to make critical decisions in various police functions.
  • Safely effects arrests, pursues suspects, and responds to emergencies while ensuring safety.
