About the position

The officer is responsible for the protection of life and property, crime prevention, apprehension of criminals, follow-up investigation on reported crimes, undercover narcotics investigations, maintaining property room, crime scene technicians, traffic enforcement, and the general enforcement of laws and ordinances. The position requires attendance at work and the ability to get along with the public, supervisors, and co-workers. Duties may vary based on assignment, including uniform patrol, warrants, criminal investigations, crime scene technician duties, training, narcotics, school resource officer responsibilities, K-9 handling, and bomb squad operations.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol assigned areas of the City for law enforcement control.
  • Respond to calls from telecommunicators and public requests.
  • Investigate incidents and accidents involving traffic.
  • Prepare reports and maintain case files on arrests and investigations.
  • Assist other law enforcement agencies with apprehension of wanted persons.
  • Conduct follow-up investigations on assigned criminal cases.
  • Maintain warrant files and coordinate warrant actions.
  • Conduct training and orientation for new officers.
  • Compile identifying information on suspects charged with selling narcotics.
  • Provide daily care and training for K-9 units.
  • Maintain professional liaison with other Bomb Squads and agencies.

Requirements

  • Arkansas State Certified or Out of State Certifications accepted by Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training (CLEST).
  • Some specialized assignments require an Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
  • 1 to 3 years of related experience and/or training.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical operations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in law enforcement or related fields.
  • Familiarity with crime scene investigation techniques.
  • Knowledge of narcotics enforcement procedures.
