About The Position

The officer is responsible for the protection of life and property, crime prevention, apprehension of criminals, follow-up investigation on reported crimes, undercover narcotics investigations, maintaining property room, crime scene technicians, traffic enforcement, and the general enforcement of laws and ordinances. The position requires attendance at work and the ability to get along with the public, supervisors, and co-workers. Duties may vary based on assignment, including uniform patrol, warrants, criminal investigation division (CID), crime scene technician, training, narcotics, school resource officer (SRO), K-9, and bomb squad responsibilities.

Requirements

• Some specialized assignments require an Associate’s degree or equivalent.
• 1 to 3 years of related experience and/or training.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals and governmental regulations.
• Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical operations.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.

Responsibilities

• Patrol assigned areas of the City for law enforcement control.
• Respond to calls from telecommunicators and public requests.
• Provide assistance to victims, witnesses, and the general public.
• Investigate incidents and accidents involving traffic.
• Prepare reports and maintain case files on arrests and investigations.
• Conduct follow-up investigations on assigned criminal cases.
• Maintain warrant files and coordinate warrant actions.
• Conduct crime scene investigations and collect evidence.
• Provide training and orientation to new officers.
• Compile identifying information on narcotics suspects and conduct undercover operations.
• Coordinate activities with school staff as a School Resource Officer.
• Maintain K-9 training and care.
• Coordinate bomb squad activities and conduct post-blast investigations.
