As a Field Training Officer (FTO), you will instruct new police officers in their specific tasks and techniques, providing written instructions and resources to assist in their training. You will deliver on-the-job training in accordance with the FTO program, establish procedures and practices, and monitor the progress of trainees, making recommendations for improvement. Your role will also involve ensuring that new officers perform their duties according to established guidelines, making on-the-spot decisions during unusual incidents, and providing technical guidance and assistance in the field. You will review incident reports for accuracy, answer questions regarding procedures and policies, and ensure that trainees are current on all qualifications. Additionally, you will respond to and investigate complaints while enforcing federal laws and regulations, and handle emergency calls and other service requests during your watch.
