Under the general supervision of a designated supervisor, perform law enforcement work concerned with protecting the lives and property of the public, maintaining law and order, detecting and apprehending suspects in criminal cases, crime prevention, community relations and educational programs/activities.

  • Perform with proficiency in Constitutional Law, Arrest and detention activities, Search and Seizure.
  • Control unruly crowds and hostile persons during civil disorders.
  • Enforce civil process orders and service process.
  • Deescalate agitated persons using verbal skills.
  • Prepare complaints and warrants for court and UNH administrative actions.
  • Assess and correct personal/facility risks and organize crime prevention programs.
  • Collect intelligence and evidence, conduct interviews and searches during investigations.
  • Enforce motor vehicle, parking, DWI laws, and traffic control and direction.
  • Complete and review police reports, forms, statements, and memos.
  • Complete juvenile reports/petitions and interact with juveniles, parents, schools, judges, and DCYF.
  • Secure accident scenes, investigate accidents, and complete reports.
  • Patrol assigned areas, buildings, streets, and grounds, enforcing motor vehicle and criminal laws.
  • Make frequent contacts with the public and other law enforcement officers.
  • Exercise discretion in the use of force under state and federal law.
  • Operate law enforcement and job-related equipment.
  • Perform duties at special events and render assistance to the public.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be 21 years of age at the time of appointment.
  • Must possess a valid NH driver’s license.
  • No criminal record other than minor motor vehicle violations.
  • Successful completion of a Written Test, Oral Board Examination, and Administrative Review/Board, Physical Agility Test.
  • Certification as a full-time police officer by the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Council or ability to receive certification within one year of appointment.
  • Ability to project self-assurance and certainty, express self in writing, and cope with stressful situations.
  • Resourcefulness, tact, and skill in dealing with the general public and distressed individuals.
