About The Position

The Tulare Police Department is currently recruiting Police Academy Graduates interested in becoming a Police Officer. To be eligible, applicants must be graduates of a POST certified Police Academy and attach a copy of their Academy certificate. This is a continuous recruitment, meaning applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis, with interviews conducted periodically. Applicants may apply and interview only once during a six-month period. The position involves a wide variety of law enforcement, community policing, and crime prevention work, including patrol, traffic, narcotics, and investigations, while maintaining good community relations and enforcing laws.

Requirements

  • Must be a graduate of a POST certified Police Academy.
  • Possession of a valid Class C California driver's license.
  • Valid basic certificate issued by the California State Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.).
  • Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment.
  • Emotional stability, coping skills, judgment, flexibility, and social skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Some college-level coursework in law enforcement.
  • Volunteer law enforcement experience.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol assigned areas to secure life and property, observe and investigate unusual conditions, and deter crime.
  • Analyze crime scenes and gather evidence; prepare reports and case files.
  • Perform community policing duties to maintain a visible presence and provide assistance to the public.
  • Respond to and investigate traffic situations, accidents, and enforce traffic laws.
  • Conduct comprehensive investigations into felony and high-level crimes.
  • Act as a liaison between the police department and school systems as a School Resource Officer.
  • Provide emergency medical attention and request medical assistance as necessary.
  • Prepare case records and reports on major activities within the jurisdiction.
  • Make arrests and serve warrants as required.
  • Participate in continuous training to enhance law enforcement skills.
