About The Position

Police Lieutenant is a highly responsible supervisory position involving detailed coordination of programs involving safety of students, faculty and staff and provide for the protection for district and personal property and officer safety.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Formal supervisory training and/or college preferred
  • Active Advanced Texas Peace Officers License issued by Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE)
  • Valid Texas Driver's License
  • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee
  • Advanced knowledge of patrol functions, criminal investigations and police report writing and criminal laws.
  • Training in use of firearms, arrest, search and seizure of individuals and property.
  • Skilled in use of computers and other electronic data equipment.
  • Five (5) years experience as a peace officer
  • Three (3) years supervisory experience or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Chief of Police in developing and implementing district security procedures and supervise the operation of patrol, support, communication and investigation units.
  • Supervises police officers, sergeants, investigators, all in-service training and all major crime scenes and incidents.
  • Oversees all special program officers (DARE, FTO, etc.) and oversees the department in absence of Chief of Police.
  • Facilitates the efficient operation of the department.
  • Makes departmental shift assignments.
  • Enforces department policies and operating regulations.
  • Enforces laws, including federal and state statutes, city ordinances and district rules and regulations.
  • Maintains liaison with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.
  • Maintains liaison with other school district police departments.
  • Inspects and secures district facilities or areas as needed.
  • Assists Chief of Police with administrative duties as directed Coordinates with district administrators, staff and other law enforcement agencies in arranging additional police services for special events or district activities.
  • Assigns follow up investigations as necessary.
  • Maintains a maintenance schedule and coordinates repairs of department motor vehicle fleet.
  • Coordinates an in-service training schedule to comply with TCLEOSE regulations department policy and district mandates.
  • Conducts Internal Affairs Investigations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
