About The Position

The Lansing Police Department is seeking a Police Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA) Analyst to provide clerical and general office support, assisting citizens with requests in person and via phone. This role offers an opportunity to enhance office and research skills while working in a team environment within a busy police department.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree or 2 Years of College; AND Two (2) years of diversified office experience including work with word processing, spreadsheets, and computer systems.
  • Knowledge and experience with the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) is preferred.
  • Experience with money handling and deposit work is preferred.
  • Transcription experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide customer service by listening to requests and providing information both verbally and in written form.
  • Process FOIA requests in accordance with legal requirements and departmental time-frames.
  • Type written reports, letters, memorandums, and budget material reports using a computer.
  • Process firearm licensing applications, perform necessary background checks, administer required written tests, issue appropriate licenses, and collect associated fees.
  • Perform pistol registration by following pre-established guidelines and procedures.
  • Scan documents into the Records Management System.
  • Transcribe reports.
