About The Position

The Police Dispatcher position at the Lakewood Police Department is a full-time union role responsible for answering emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatching police, fire, and EMS services, and managing communication systems. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Ability to maintain composure under stressful circumstances.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office and data entry.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain LEADS certification and CPR certificate.
  • Clear, calm, and reassuring communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the geography of the City of Lakewood is preferred.
  • Experience in an emergency service dispatch center is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Answer 911/Police and Fire emergency calls as well as non-emergency and TDD calls.
  • Monitor radio traffic for police, fire, public works, and EMS, updating status and location of all units.
  • Dispatch Police, Fire, and EMS based on priority and appropriate codes.
  • Perform computer functions including CAD, REDSS entries, LEADS, NCIC, ORION, etc.
  • Assist with the supervision of female prisoners in the Lakewood City Jail.
  • Operate and maintain dispatching and backup systems.
  • Monitor alarm systems, video surveillance, and audio communication systems for various facilities.
  • Perform clerical and administrative tasks as directed.
